Starting Your Search For A Good Child Care Facility

By Shari Swanson

When you are planning to return to work after the birth of your baby, you may be anxious and stressed about finding the right child care Manhattan district to meet your needs. You need to start researching care options almost immediately you find out you are pregnant, and certainly no later than the birth.

You can narrow your search to your local area, providing you work and live in that area. If that is not the case and you live in one district and commute to work, try to find a care facility somewhere on your journey in between. Travelling between your work, home and nursery may prove to be time consuming and costly.

You may work beside other parent who use local nursery facilities, or have done in the last year or so. Ask about their experiences and if they would recommend it to you. You can expect really good facilities to be full with a long waiting list for places. That is why it is best to start looking as early as possible, if you leave it until a few weeks or months before your child should start, you may not be able to find a place.

Prior to your daughter or son joining, you should plan to spend a few hours with them at the nursery. It is your opportunity to assess the staff, the facilities and how the place is run. You can learn a lot by watching how babies and toddlers behave with staff and their environment. You know your baby better than anyone and you should allow your instincts to guide you. If something feels not quite right, it usually is not right, trust your instincts.

Cleanliness and hygiene standards are important and you should inspect all the areas your baby or toddler is likely to be. Pay particular attention to the toys, to ensure they are appropriate for the users age group. You can probably tell at a glance if they are in good repair.

An important point to check, is that all staff have been vetted to work with minors. Check that they are registered and fully qualified to work in a facility for Child Care Manhattan district. It is important for your own piece of mind to ask about security and who has access to the building and the children. Is there a secure entry system in operation to prevent children wandering out?
